Welcome to Finca Varsovia

One of the wonderful views from Finca Varsovia.
This page would like to bring you an introduction for English speakers of our unique and open ecological Colombian farm estate. We are an authentic family owned rural farm among the hills of the Andes between Bogota and the mighty Magdalena river. We operate on a not-for-profit basis. Finca Varsovia farm estate focuses mainly on sugar cane and with it Panela production. We also host a number of authentic and exciting crops, products and ventures all focusing on ecologically sound processes and not-for-profit endeavours.
More about our farm.
Founded in the seventies by a conservative man in a liberal Colombian town. Still bearing the farms founding name of Finca Varsovia. Finca meaning Farm and Varsovia being spanish for Warsaw the Polish capital. The link to Poland being the admiration for Pope John Paul II in this wonderfully Catholic majority country. Producing sugarcane as a core crop at the center of Colombia’s main and most renowned sugarcane growing region of Villeta in the Cundinamarca state. Passed down through family, we are working wholly for the sustainability of the farm as a sugarcane growing farm in a not-for-profit ethos.
Our main Sugarcane Product.

The machine we use to extract the sugarcane juice.
Panela is our main product of the farm’s key sugarcane crop. Panela is basically reduced sugarcane juice that is moulded into rectangular blocks of roughly one pound in weight. Our sugarcane crop is self certified organic and ecologically farmed in time honored traditional practices. We offer our produce to local markets including passionate chefs and restaurateurs abroad. If we have surplus produce we honour orders for special requests worldwide. For more information and to make an enquiry or request, feel free to contact us.
We are direct trade farmers. Meaning, we do not use middle men in any way. Nor do we permit anyone to sell their products as ours or use our name on their products. We have been made aware of traders attempting to sell produce as originating from our farm. To be certain that you have bought or are using Finca Varsovia’s highest grade produce, please establish direct contact with us here.
Our wild and exotic Chillies.

You may have found this page after obtaining, trying or enquiring after our authentic and wild grown chillies. These are chillies that can be found growing wild throughout the farms estate. They have been commended, graded and commented as truly original in the chilli connoisseur scene. Offering an exquisite, wholesome and very hot flavour in a wonderfully small birds eye size, we can offer a truly rare opportunity. These chillies are a fine produce grown in a small but regular amount. We welcome requests but want to be clear that we can supply these chillies in finite amounts upon special request only. If you would like to know more please contact us.

We are a not-for-profit farm and welcome all the help we can receive. We are listing our farm with volunteering agencies and work exchange organisations such as Help Exchange and WWOOF Latin America. We look forward to receiving volunteers in helping secure and expand ourselves as an authentic and functioning farm. We can offer you a rewarding placement at the farm that offers a real and educational experience in the most Colombian of settings. For example you can find out about work exchange at our farm by the WWOOF website, Help Exchange listing or just by contacting us direct for more information.
Our Locality.

Panoramic view from Finca Varsovia over the town of Villeta.
Our farm is listed on Google Maps and even appears in Google’s Street View. The main town in the municipality of our farm is called Villeta. Villeta is fairly large and boasts a large church with customary town square. There are a number of small convenience stores and a large host of independent retailers offering all sorts of local produce. The town also hosts a vegetarian restaurant and a herbal shop too. Here’s a post of visiting Villeta on Colombia Reports, a website post in English that still stands true as time doesn’t really move here. Positioned on the main road from Bogotá, it winds itself through these Andes ranges and onto local and popular towns such as Guaduas and the important and protected town of Honda on the Magdalena river, further along this road you reach Medellín, Mompós and Cartagena or head off to the South to reach Cali. There are a host of other wonderful rural towns of different climates in the vicinity to our farm and Villeta. The area also hosts a number of extreme sporting activities.
Staying in touch with Finca Varsovia.

One of our friendly farm cats.
Being in one instance a time honoured, rural Colombian farm with very traditional practices, we are trying to engage a new audience to find out about what we do. We have had our Twitter account for some time and plan on using this more and more as to what goes on at our farm on a daily basis. The same can be said of our facebook page. Our flickr group group and YouTube Channel accounts will feature media taken in and around our farm’s estate, showing the wonderful imagery and practices on display. Feel free to join us on these media streams to be a part of what we’re doing.
